Charities
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous answered him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King answered them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
Matthew 25:35-40
The Parable of the Sheep and Goats (Matthew 25:31–46) strongly encourages Christians to take action to help those in need. In this parable, Jesus makes it clear that a life worthy of the reward of Heaven must involve actively helping people in need. Jesus explains that helping a person, no matter how low in status the person may be, is just the same as helping Jesus himself.
We at St Mary’s believe that supporting those who are less fortunate than us is vital in the role we play in our different communities. Our aim is to support a different charity each half term. Some are will be consistent throughout the year but others will be influenced by local or world events. We aim to support Catholic charities, which reflect our Catholic Social Teaching principles.
